British Ambassador praises work of Saudi charity October 13, 2005 The British Ambassador to Saudi Arabia has praised the work of the Saudi-based World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), highlighting the organization’s commitment to tackling poverty and meeting the educational needs of the Islamic world.
The ambassador also talked about the UK’s Muslim population, emphasizing that it was well understood that those who had perpetrated the bombings in London in early July did not represent other Muslims or the Islamic faith. A representative of the Italian embassy also stressed the importance of WAMY’s outreach programmes. The World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) is an independent international organisation and an Islamic forum that supports the work of Muslim organisations and needy communities the world over. WAMY's headquarters are based in Riyadh. It is a member of the United Nations NGOs (Non-Governmental Organisations), and recognised for its range of humanitarian and relief work that operates in about 60 per cent of the Muslim World. Picture shows Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles and WAMY Secretary-General Dr Saleh Al-Wohaibi. |
