FOCA condemns the heinous bomb attack in London Riyadh, July 9, 2005 Members and officials of the Friends of Charities Association (FOCA), a trade association of leading faith-based charities, joined people of conscious throughout the world in condemning the heinous bomb attack in London. Following is a summary of their respective statements: Muslim World League (MWL) Secretary-General Dr. Abdullah Al-Turki condemned the criminal attacks. “On behalf of Muslims and Islamic organizations it represents, the MWL condemns the repugnant act of crime that targeted innocent civilians,” Al-Turki said, adding that Islam has prohibited the killing of innocent people. He urged the United Nations to carry out a coordinated joint campaign to cleanse the world of terrorists. The International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO), the relief arm of the MWL which also maintains offices with MWL in London, also condemned the bombing. “In Islam, as in Judeo-Christian theology, taking a single innocent life is like killing all of humanity,” stated IIRO Secretary-General Dr. Adnan Basha. “As victims of recent vicious bombing campaigns at home, we stand in solidarity with all Londoners in rejecting such actions,” he added. The World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), with offices in London, joined the growing chorus of condemnation. “As I have stated to my friend Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles [UK Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia], acts of terrorism carried out by Muslims are the acts of cowards whose actions defile Islam,” stated WAMY Secrtary-General Dr. Saleh Al-Wohaibi. For Al Muntada Al Islami, headquartered in the Parsons Green suburb in West London, the attacks struck a raw nerve close to home. “No political cause justifies such an atrocity and our hearts go out to the innocent victims of this attack, indeed to all Londoners and citizens of the UK,” stated Abdulfattah Mohammed, Al Muntada’s Executive Director. |
