FOCA Condemns the killing of Mr. Nicholas Berg The Friends of Charities Association (FOCA), a group composed of leading faith-based charities providing humanitarian relief work all over the world, unequivocally and in the strongest language condemns the killing of Mr. Nicholas Berg. Muslims believe that every human life is in its essence precious. God informs us in the Qur¹an: "Whoseover killeth a human being for than other manslaughter or corruption in earth, it shall be as if he had killed all humanity, and whoso saveth the life of one human being, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all humanity." (5:32) FOCA further condemns any attempt by Muslims or others to link this killing with the teachings of Islam. FOCA believes that just as the actions of a handful of soldiers in the Abu Ghuraib prison should never be used to judge 275 million Americans; the killing of Mr. Berg, or the events of 9/11, should never be used to judge 1 billion Muslims. FOCA calls for continued dialogue between all concerned parties, at all levels governmental and NGO, to work toward ending this continuing cycle of violence and its underlying causes. |
